Do you know what to do if you are involved in an auto accident?
Review this checklist to be sure.
- Stay calm. Make sure your vehicle is out of the way of traffic.
- Get the name, phone number, address and driver’s license number of everybody involved. Get contact information for all witnesses, too.
- Gather vehicle (make, model, color, plate number/s) for every involved vehicle. If you have a camera, take pictures. The longer you wait, the more likely you will miss important details.
- The party's name, address and phone number if the owner is someone other than the driver.
- If you envisage trouble, call the police to file a report.
- The specific location of the accident and the identity of the specific authority that responds to the scene (police, highway patrol, Road Safety Officer, fire/rescue) if possible.

Property
If loss occurs
- Take the necessary steps to protect persons from injury.
- Contact authorities (fire, police, etc.).
- Contact your insurance broker or if unavailable, Staco`s claims response line at 08052099342. Be sure to leave your policy number and contact information, including cell phone numbers and operable land phone numbers where you can be reached.
- Take steps to protect property from further damage. This may include covering holes in the roof or walls and extracting water. Maintain receipts and records of your expenses.
- Preserve the loss scene areas by preventing persons, other than public authorities and contractors performing emergency repairs, from entering.
- Do not attempt to use electric devices exposed to fire, smoke or water.,/span>
- If possible, take photos or video of damaged property.
- Do not discard damaged property or begin repairs without prior approval from your claims representative.
Public Liability
When a liability incident occurs, there are steps you can take to minimize the impact on your time and your business.
If an incident occurs:
- Record the names of any witnesses and/or other involved parties; include addresses and phone numbers.
- Identify any visible hazards or debris in the area.
- Record the identity of any investigative authorities.
- In the event of a slip and fall, take note of the shoes or clothing worn by the person who fell.
- Retain any items related to the cause of injury or damage.
- Contact your insurance agent to report any potential claim that may exist.
